AARP AgeLine Database
AgeLine contains summaries of over 60,000 books, articles, and videos related to assisted living and older adults. It can be searched by keyword or phrase, title, author, journal name, date, or intended audience.
Administration on Aging (AoA)
The Federal agency for older persons and their concerns. The Administration on Aging works to heighten awareness among organizations, groups, and the public about the valuable contributions that older Americans make to our nation and alerts them to the needs of vulnerable older people, such as those in assisted living communities. Through information and referral and outreach efforts at the community level, Administration on Aging seeks to educate older people and their caregivers about the benefits and services available to help them.
Aging With Dignity
A non-profit agency established to provide practical information, advice, and legal tools needed to ensure your wishes regarding your wishes for treatment if you are seriously ill and unable to speak for yourself. An important topic for family discussion before a loved one is placed in an assisted living community.
Alliance for Aging Research
A private, not-for-profit, organization considered a leading citizen advocacy organization for improving the health and independence of Americans as they age. Some information about assisted living, and many resources for seniors.
American Diabetes Association
One of the top 4 diagnoses for residents of assisted living communities! The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information, and advocacy. Founded in 1940, the American Diabetes Association conducts programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, reaching hundreds of communities.
Assisted Living Federation of America
The largest association exclusively dedicated to the assisted living industry and the population it serves. The assisted living Federation of America represents over 5,000 for-profit and not-for-profit providers of assisted living as well as a diverse range of organizations involved in the assisted living industry. With 40 state affiliates nationwide, assisted living Federation of America promotes the philosophy of consumer choice and quality of life for seniors.
Bureau of Aging & Long Term Care Resources
The state agency responsible for regulation of assisted living communities.
Department Of Health And Human Services
The United States government's principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, including those who reside in assisted living communities. The department includes more than 300 programs, covering a wide spectrum of activities. Some highlights including Medicare, Medicaid, and services for older Americans, including home-delivered meals, and assisted living resources.
Families For Depression Awareness
Depression affects 15 percent of people over 65, and as many as 25 percent of people living in assisted living communities. This is a site devoted to helping families recognize and cope with depressive disorders.

The official U.S. gateway to all government electronic information related to senior issues, including assisted living.
HUD - Senior Citizens Resources

International Council on Active Aging
Founded in 2001, the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) has quickly grown to become the world largest association dedicated to changing the way we age by uniting and working with professionals in the retirement, assisted living, recreation, fitness, rehabilitation, medical and wellness fields. A wealth of information on many health issues faced by residents in assisted living communities.
Medicare Rights Center (MRC)
The largest independent source of Medicare information and assistance in the United States. Founded in 1989, Medicare Rights Center helps older adults and people with disabilities get high-quality, affordable health care. Not an abundance of information about assisted living, but an excellent source for seniors who need to navigate through the Medicare program.
National Council on the Aging
A national network of organizations and individuals dedicated to improving the health and independence of older persons; increasing their continuing contributions to communities, society and future generations; and building caring communities. A good source for information about a variety of topics, including assisted living.
National Institute of Health Senior Health
Designed especially for adults 60 and older. Up-to-date, practical health information presented in easy-to-read language along with videos, self-paced quizzes and more. A good source for information about a variety of topics, including assisted living.
National Institute on Aging (NIA)
One of the 27 Institutes and Centers of National Institute on Aging, the National Institute on Aging leads an effort to understand the nature of aging and to extend the healthy, active years of life. The National Institute on Aging as the primary Federal agency on Alzheimer's disease research. A good source for information about a variety of topics, including assisted living.
Social Security Administration
The nation's primary income security Agency. It administers the Federal retirement, survivors and disability insurance programs, as well as the program of Social Security Administration supplemental security income for the aged, blind and disabled, and performs certain functions with respect to the black lung benefits program. Social Security Administration also directs the aid to the aged, blind and disabled in Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
The Federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Programs for which CMS is responsible for Medicare, Medicaid, State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), HIPAA, and CLIA programs.
