In-Home Supportive Services

Often provided by private businesses, public agencies, civic groups, and non-profit organizations. Family or volunteer caregivers provide supportive services such as shopping, transportation, light housekeeping, and meal preparation.

Advantages:
Provides social stimulation, mobility, nutritional, and other types of support, making these services attractive to individuals requiring minimal assistance. Costs may be partially subsidized.

Limitations:
Availability of services, providers, and funding may be a barrier to access for services. These services are generally not covered by insurance.

Cost:
Up to $2000.00 per month:
  • Adult day care; $30.00 per day.
  • Companion services, telephone reassurance, visitor services; $5.00 to $15.00 per hour.
  • Live-in homemakers; $100.00 to $400.00 per week plus room and board.
  • Homemaker/Personal Care services; $18.00 to $40.00 per hour.
