Allows an individual to recover from an acute or chronic health episode in their home following a hospital stay. May include
medical supervision, in-home care, and rehabilitative services coordinated through a home health agency.
Advantages:
Nursing assessment, intervention, and rehabilitative care are covered by most insurance providers on a per-visit basis.
Limitations:
Requires a physician's authorization to be covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or any other third-party payor. Claims and service
authorizations are subject to review and potential for rejection under fraud and abuse statutes, putting the individual at risk
for portions not covered.
Cost:
Up to $5000.00 per month. If durable medical equipment or medical supplies are required, the cost will be higher:
Adult day care; $30.00 per day.
Registered nurse; $83.00 to $90.00 per visit.
Home-health aide; $50.00 per hour (the average visit being two to four hours).
